Sample Artist Statements
“I like photography because it allows you to freeze a moment in time. It allows you to see things you would not otherwise notice, as well as feel emotions from a place you have never been.”
“My leading question… is: How has an eating disorder disrupted many aspects of my life? I wanted to show the more taboo symptoms that accompany EDs including catabolysis, brain fog, isolation, insecurities, and the desperate want to have others understood. My goal was to transform some of the internal struggles of EDs into somethin more tangible.”
“… I wanted to focus on the impact of media on women. Insecurities have stemmed from the media pushing the ‘ideal’ look for women. Products such as makeup, diet pills, fake nails, etc., have influenced women to change themselves to be best suited for society. As a teenage girl myself, I have encountered may advertisements in which I have been influenced to buy items like these. I wanted to show how emotional it really can be.”
“I focused on light to symbolize change and examine the hope and longing I felt through a difficult period in my life.”
