A SUMMER IN MADTOWN is a contemporary pop/rock song cycle that follows various college students during their summer breaks. Whether they’re struggling with relationship issues, career doubts, or feeling suddenly out of place in their hometowns, these characters want to escape the limbo between childhood and adulthood. Featuring songs such as What It Takes, Fanning The Flames, and I Think I Peaked In High School, the show reminds us to be wary of “Madtown” — the intersection between dwelling on the past and worrying about the future — and instead try to simply live in the moment.
Michael Gribble is a Los Angeles-based songwriter and screenwriter originally from Madison, New Jersey. Also a frequenter of the Upper Midwest, Michael loves to take influence from his surroundings in his writing. Michael’s composing credits include several musical short films, commercials, and full-length musicals. As a performer, Michael has played such venues as Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney World, and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Michael is excited to finally debut A Summer In Madtown live in concert!
Cast
César Velasco (Voice 1) is a writer/director/actor who graduated from Chapman University in 2021. He has participated in theatre from a young age, starring in such plays as Les Miserables, Oklahoma! and Oliver!. Born in Guanajuato, México, César has a particular interest in the Latinx community and hopes to tell stories that connect with his heritage and showcase its beauty and richness to the rest of the world. In 2022 he won a Jury Award at the Director’s Guild of America Student Film Awards for his thesis film A Song of the Land.
Mady Dever (Voice 2) is a Los Angeles-based writer, musician, and Chapman University Graduate. She currently plays piano and sings with her sister in their band, Devers. They’re excited to be releasing a new single and EP later this year.
Jeffrey Cornelius (Voice 3) is a New York City based actor/musician. Previously, Jeffrey was touring the country in Dear Evan Hansen as the Evan Hansen alternate. Huge Thank You to Mommy, Daddy, Daniel, Granny, Grandpa, Nana, PawPaw, Uncle John, TT, Kevin and EVERY SINGLE Teacher and Mentor who helped me get to this point. It takes a village.
Elyse Bell (Voice 4) is a 22 year-old actress and singer. Credits include: Jo March from Little Women: The Musical (2019 Jimmy Awards Nominee), Cinderella in Into the Woods and Roz Keith in 9 to 5. She has also guest starred as Madison Pierce on ABC’s Queens. Elyse recently graduated from Pace University’s Musical Theater program.
