Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre
Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre was originally founded in 1965 by Maria Alba who was renowned for her Spanish dance drama works, but it was Artistic Director Eva Lucena who brought to the company a broader perspective of Spanish culture and traditions. It now reaches thousands of people annually through its repertoire which runs from Spanish Gypsy Flamenco and classical works to cross cultural programs that celebrate Hispanic cultural influences and beyond. Artistic Director Eva Lucena-Welch received a “Lifetime Achievement for the Arts” Award from the Ocean County Cultural and Heritage Commission and the company has been praised by the critics. Robert Johnson called Alborada “mesmerizing” in his Star-Ledger review and the New York Times praised their “impassioned footwork.”
