Joan Baez: I Am a Noise | Documentary | Film Society of Summit | With a Post-viewing Conversation | Sunday November 5 2023 | 4:30 pm

At the end of a 60-year career, legendary singer and activist Joan Baez takes an honest look back and a deep look inward as she tries to make sense of her large, history-making life, and the personal struggles she’s kept private. This immersive doc moves back and forth through time as it follows living folk legend Joan Baez on her farewell tour, covering everything from her civil rights work with MLK to her heartbreaking romance with a young Bob Dylan to her incredible staying power (she’s 82!). Neither a conventional biopic nor a traditional concert film, JOAN BAEZ I AM A NOISE is a raw and intimate portrait of the legendary folk singer and activist that shifts back and forth through time as it follows Joan on her final tour and delves into her extraordinary archive, including newly discovered home movies, diaries, artwork, therapy tapes, and audio recordings. Baez is remarkably revealing about her life on and off stage.

Cancelled. RADICAL WOLFE | Documentary | Film Society of Summit | With a Post-viewing Conversation | Friday October 6 2023 | 7:30 pm

In 2015 Michael Lewis (bestselling author of Moneyball, The Blind Side, and The Big Short) went to Long Island to meet his hero Tom Wolfe. The result of those trips was the Vanity Fair article How Tom Wolfe Became… Tom Wolfe, which chronicled Tom Wolfe’s amazing arc from small town life in Virginia to the pinnacle of journalism and literature in New York City.

Radical Wolfe is an official adaptation of that article, complete with interviews and analysis from contemporaries, and the first film to chronicle the most impactful, controversial writer in the latter half of the 20th century.
