New Jersey Photography Forum Information
The New Jersey Photography Forum is a group of experienced photography exhibitors that was started in 1994 by Nancy J. Ori of Berkeley Heights and Michael Creem of Summit, as an opportunity for experienced photographers to gather and talk about their work and explore exhibition opportunities within the fine art community.
The group has grown over the years to become the largest and most recognized group of fine art exhibiting photographers in the state. They are now celebrating their 25th year of exhibiting fine art photography. The membership comes from all areas of the state and beyond. As a group they have tremendous variety in style and use a wide array of photographic techniques. There are several recurring themes in their work, such as: Nature, Environment, Architecture, People, Abstracts, New Jersey and Culture.
The monthly meetings begin promptly at 7:00PM at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, 68 Elm Street, Summit and last until 9:30PM. The meetings are opened with announcements of interest to the group including exhibits where members are showing, future events and upcoming workshops. Members who have brought photographs to show present their work for discussion. Each presentation and discussion is given enough time to get to know each photographer and their work. A $5 contribution is made by each person attending to help fund activities. All are welcome.
In addition to our regular meetings, we offer a chance to “learn by doing” for those who are part of our Exhibition Committee. The EC is currently comprised of 15 people directed by Nancy Ori and managed by Terri Hood and Charles Miller. Their tasks are to research and select exhibition venues within New Jersey and create proposals for exhibition. Once approved, the committee will decide if artists will be selected by invitation or an open call to our membership and/or the public. The number of artists, size and number of works required, budget, laying out and hanging of the works, purchase of refreshment items for opening reception, publicity, signage, sales, and removal of the works at the end of the exhibit are all handled by members of the EC.

Biographies of the Artists
Ruth Brown has been involved in photography for over 50 years.
She completed a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts Photography at Brooklyn College, under the tutelage of Walter Rosenblum who was a student of Paul Strand – Famous American Photographer.

Artist Statement
Ever since I was young I’ve been a Photographer. It all started with my Brownie camera. When I go out now with my camera I tend to wander – searching for things that entices my creativity.
The images included in this exhibit were taken in many different National Parks in states like Washington, Oregon, California, and Utah. I’ve been working on a National Parks project for years and I hope that sharing these images will motivate the observers to visit some of our National Parks in the near future.

Charlann’s career began with the study of Fine Art and Art Education at JCSC in 1970. Upon completion of her Master’s Degree at Kean University in 1974, she began teaching Art in the Bayonne School District while creating and producing her own individual artwork. Her early works were based in Commercial Art and Design.
In 1995, Charlann began teaching Computer Graphics and focused on Photo Art and Digital Photography. From this time on, she regularly exhibited her work in juried shows and participated in local, national and international competitions enjoying much success. To date, Charlann has received 80+ awards for her efforts.
In June of 2014, Charlann retired from teaching after 40 years of service to pursue her Photo Art and Photography full time and continue exhibiting her work. She has also juried and curated a number of art/photography exhibits over the past several years.

Artist Statement
As a photo artist and photographer, I engage in the use of digital technology as part of my daily routine and my photographic journey. I utilize the latest technological advances to enhance and improve my images and fine-tune them to my liking.
In a world saturated with visual images, I make certain that my photographs and montages are unique, original and have genuine interest to me. As I look to my environment, I carefully choose subject matter that begs to be photographed, whether serious, mundane, romantic or whimsical. I have become increasingly aware of my surroundings, looking to discover images from everyday and unexpected sources.
What I see and capture must meet both my eye and my soul and also have visual impact that will evoke a feeling or reaction within the viewer with whom I strive to have a similar connection. Since my photographs and montages are conceived with the notion to be seen, pondered and enjoyed, the emotional connection with the observer completes the intent of my artistry.
Nancy J. Ori obtained a BA degree in Fine Arts from Elmira College, Elmira, NY and an MS degree in Visual Communications from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. She worked for 25 years for Ciba-Geigy Pharmaceuticals and Novartis Pharmaceuticals as their in-house corporate photographer and manager of Video and Photography Services.
Ori is now the owner of New Jersey Media Center, LLC in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey where she continues to do product, portrait, and food photography. She also enjoys teaching photography globally as well as exhibiting her fine art photographs. Nancy was taught by Ansel Adams and then affiliated for many years with the Ansel Adams Workshop in CA.
In 1994, she founded the New Jersey Photography Forum, which over the years under Ori’s direction, has become the largest and most recognized group of fine art exhibiting photographers in the state.
Ori’s work has been widely collected and exhibited in museums & galleries throughout the globe & has been chosen to participate in numerous grant projects and fine art exhibits. Her work is in permanent museum and corporate collections internationally including the Museum of Modern Art in NYC. Along with exhibiting her own work, Ori has curated and juried hundreds of exhibits for a wide variety of venues internationally.
Artist Statement
Since 1970, I have traveled throughout the world working on various teaching and photographic projects which has given me the opportunity to explore many popular and cherished places with my cameras. Landscape and architecture are my sources of inspiration and discovery. I respond emotionally to each subject which requires total responsibility to the image. Although my response may appear spontaneous because of the speed and ease I feel working with my cameras, it is not that. My captures are studied, instinctively but quickly moving around a place, uncovering the parts until I feel I have discovered the whole. I look for subjects that will translate into my painterly style with interesting light and color.
